Project Synopsis: Challenge/Opportunity
Mental Health America of Greater Dallas is a longstanding organization with an 80-year history of advocating for mental health awareness and support. Known for its impactful programs and community engagement, the organization is currently undergoing a transition to re-energize its focus on community partnerships and youth mental health programming. A key component of this is the Adolescent Symposium of Texas, a significant event that convenes professionals from various sectors to discuss adolescent mental health trends and strategies.

The primary challenge facing the organization is leveraging the symposium beyond its traditional role as a standalone event. There's a need to transform it into a strategic platform for community needs assessment, partnership building, sponsor attraction, and future programming development. Currently, the symposium's potential to inform broader organizational strategy and community impact is underutilized, limiting its overall effectiveness and reach.

This project provides a unique opportunity for UT Dallas students to address this challenge by conducting in-depth research and analysis around the symposium. Students will utilize their skills in data collection, analysis, and strategic planning to derive insights that can guide the organization's strategic direction. They will explore how the symposium can be used to foster stronger community ties, increase funding opportunities, and enhance youth mental health services.

The project will be executed in phases, starting with pre-event research and outreach, followed by data collection and analysis during the symposium, and concluding with the synthesis of findings into a strategic brief. This hands-on experience is ideal for students as it allows them to apply academic concepts in a practical setting, enhancing their skills in consulting, research, and strategic evaluation.

Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the mental health landscape in Greater Dallas, develop their ability to interact with diverse stakeholders, and learn how to translate research findings into actionable business strategies. The project not only addresses a critical organizational need but also equips students with the tools and experience needed for their future careers in consulting, public health, and nonprofit management.
